Budget Trekking

Budget trekking packages keep the Everest experience and cut the extras: simple teahouse lodging, straightforward meals and a plain itinerary, arranged from our office in Thamel, Kathmandu.

What budget means on the trail

On the trek you sleep and eat in the same teahouses as everyone else on the route. Budget packages skip upgrades such as lodge rooms with private bathrooms and helicopter returns. The route, the permits and the guide still follow the same standards as our other Everest treks.

Where the money goes

Most of the cost of any Everest trek is fixed: the Lukla flight, permits, a guide and porter, and food and lodging at altitude. Where a budget package saves is in comfort and the number of days. Ask the office what is included before you compare prices between operators.

FAQs

What does a budget Everest Base Camp trek include?

Budget packages normally include airport transfers, teahouse lodging and meals on the trek, permits, the Lukla flight and a guide. The exact list is on each trip page.

Is a budget trek less safe?

Safety depends on pacing, acclimatisation and the guide, not on the price. Check that any package you compare includes acclimatisation days, a guide, and a plan for emergency evacuation.

What costs extra on a budget trek?

Personal items such as drinks, hot showers, battery charging, Wi-Fi, tips and travel insurance are normally paid for on the trail or in advance by you.
